Gizo is the second largest city in the Solomon Islands. It serves as the 

hub for the many islands of the northern and western regions of the 

Solomons.  It has that last stop to the farthest point of a remote destination 

feel, yet there are more islands and villages that are even more remote than Gizo.

The Solomon Islands have diverse cultures, languages, and customs. The population is  94.5% Melanesian, 3% Polynesian and 1.2% Micronesian.  Having spent a week on Ofu Island near American Samoa last year (which was 95% Polynesian people), I was looking forward to experiencin life with another one of the diverse cultural groups of the the South Pacific.  

This trip is not for the  "I don't like airports" type of people.  Patience and making sure your devices are charged, will get you through. My itinerary included 24 & 1/2 hours of actual flying time & 15 & 1/2 hours of layovers.  Total time to get there - 40 hours.  

Soon I will be flying from Toronto to the Solomon Islands. These islands are located in the middle of the south-west Pacific Ocean.  Actually I’m flying to Gizo in the western provinces of this country situated just east of Papua New Guinea.
