Adios (Good Bye) - Antarctica

What an adventure this trip turned out to be.  I hope everyone who has followed my blogs will give this trip to the southern most part of our planet, a second thought.  I now have a greater appreciation of how important this continent is to the over all balance of our planets eco system.  Yes, there may be a bit of a bumpy voyage - but don't let that deter you.  The incredible landscapes sculpted by glaciers that were formed thousands of years ago, the birds and mammals that call this area home for at least part of the year, the majesty and power of the floating ice - this is what I will remember from my trip to Antarctica.  I hope my travel blogs in words and photos has given you a better appreciation of this amazing place - a once in a lifetime trip.

After we made it to the safety of the Chilean Fjords, we had one more opportunity for a zodiac excursion.  So my blog won't end with my words above, but with photos of Cormorants and Penguins nesting in the southern Patagonia Region - Tierra del Fuego.

Thanks for following me,

Lance

Not only were the penguins nesting, but the Cormorants too.  Our excursion to Tucker Island to a large Cormorant colony was amazing.  There were birds everywhere as many were gathering nesting materials and others making the nest just right.  We saw two types of Cormorants, the Blue Eyed Cormorant and the Rock Cormorant.  Both are displayed in photos below.

A large Black-Browed Albatross flies overhead.  Maybe checking out  opportunities for later - when eggs and chicks could become a meal.

Our final penguin species that we encountered was the Magellanic penguin.  About the same size as the other penguins we saw but it has two distinctive stripes on the front side.  Another difference is that this penguin nests in burrows not on the surface.
