M/V Evolution
is our boat for our Galapagos adventure, managed by Quasar Expeditions. The boat was built in the 1970’s and retrofitted in 2022. Holding up to 32 passengers, it runs a first class operation. Food, Crew and Park Naturalists totally amazing.
Chinese Hat Island "Sombrero Chino" to locals
is one of many interesting islands in the Galagos Archipelago. Cruise itineraries will include stops at several different islands as each island has its own unique characteristics and often species only to be found on that island. The small channel between Chinese Hat and mainland Santiago is fairly deep yet sheltered, and the water here is a glistening turquoise. When you see the island from a distance, you’ll soon understand why it has been named in this way, as the island is shaped like a traditional Chinese hat. The shape has arisen due to the fact that all the islands were created by oceanic volcanic activity millions of years ago. It was formed from lava and rocks which came from the erupting volcano.
Access to the park and marine reserve around it are heavily protected - you will need a certified park naturist to explore any of the islands. With a history of decimation of certain species (especially the Tortoises) by humans, this is the only way the Galapagos Islands can continue to remain in its natural way.
Iguanas - Lizards
Sally Light Foot Crabs
Because there are so many different species, I will focus on a specific type in each of my three blogs. Birds next followed by the oh so loveable Sea Lions.
