Namibia's Nature Reserves

Throughtout Namibia

you will find convservancies and nature reserves whose role is to protect the natural resources, and wildlife sustainability of Namibia. The conservancies consists of a group of commercial farms or areas of communal land on which neighbouring land owners or members have banded together. Nature reserves tend to be privately owned and can be very large tracts land. Many of the private ones also have beautiful lodge/resorts.

I’ll highlight two different nature reserves and the wildlife they are protecting.

Bagatelle Game Ranch/Lodge is located in southern Namibia in the Kalahri Desert. More of a ranch setting than other lodges, it is situated on a 17,300-acres parcel of protected land. This is where you start to see sand dunes. Four hours down the road - the big ones begin. The two big activities are White Rhino viewing and Cheetah feeding in the captive enclosures. You may also see Giraffes, Springboks, Wildebeest, Zebras, Baboons and Antelope.

White Rhinos

The property also includes an enclosure for orphaned Cheetahs, managed in collaboration with the Cheetah Conservation Fund. These are Cheetahs whose mother has died or the Cheetah was originally raised as a pet - in both cases the young Cheetah could not fend for itself in the wild.

Leopards

are tracked by GPS collars. This pretty much insures you will find at least one Leopard on your game drive. I know this is totally different than Safari’s where animals live naturally, but it is a trade off for being able to see these beautiful animals.
