You will find this iconic Canadian Symbol at the eastern most point of Quebec’s Gaspe Peninsula - just off the village of Perce. It doesn’t seem to draw the same attention that other well know tourist areas of Canada do - but after driving around the peninsula I would highly recommend a road trip to this unique and beautiful area of Canada.

The massive rocky cliff is called by several names, such as le Rocher Percé, Pierced Rock, Pierced Island, Split Rock or Percé Rock. The name is attributed to the pierced rock that formed an arch 15 metres (49 ft) high on its seaward southern end, as though a needle had cut through the rock. It was named Percé ("pierced rock") by Samuel de Champlain in 1607, in reference to the holes he had seen in the massive block of limestone, which over the years has become a major attraction in the province of Quebec.

Percé is member of the association of Most Beautiful Villages of Quebec. A view from the trail that leads to a tower overlooking the village and surrounding area - certainly confirms the word beautiful.

I’ll end this post with a few more photos of one of Quebec’s most beautiful symbols - le Rocher Percé. Just sit down by the waterfront in early morning or late afternoon and enjoy how the changing light makes your reason for making this a destination - all the more special.
