Sydney - is the largest city in Australia and is located on its Southeastern shore. It is also home to some of Australia’s most iconic landmarks. It is ranked in the 15 most visited cities in the world and often ranked in the top ten of most livable cities in the world. One drawback is the fact that it is also listed as the 12th most expensive city in the world to live. The most important fact to remember - is that Sydney is a great choice for starting an Australian adventure.
Sydney’s Heart
A walk to the harbour to Circular Quay is where you find the heart beat of Sydney. Some of the most iconic images of all of Australia are there. Ferry boats continually move about the incredible busy waterway taking passengers to all parts of this famous harbour. Sail boats, power boats and all manner of watercraft are part of this incredible scene. Looming above it all - the famous Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
How about a climb up the Harbour Bridge to get a spectacular view of Sydney‘s downtown and Harbour. Not for those with a bit of acrophobia (fear of heights).
Australia’s Soul
Unexpectedly, I found the soul of Australia on a beautiful beach in Sydney Harbour. Taking the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly Beach I happened on what was an amazing event. There before me were hundreds of youth and young adults participating in competitions to save the lives of fellow Australians. With 85% of the population living within 50 Kms (30 miles) of the ocean and swimming lessons mandatory in public schools, the importance of learning how to be safe in waters and the ocean is paramount to all Australians.
These young people were not participating in a sporting event for their own gain, but for one of the most important things to all Australians - water safety. How many of these individuals would or could eventually save a life? That is why I think I found the Australia’s Soul on Manly Beach. Young people committed to Australia’s life style.
